Goodison on target as Tranmere draw
published: Sunday | March 26, 2006

LONDON (CMC):

REGGAE BOY Ian Goodison scored his first goal of the season for Tranmere Rovers as they came from behind to draw 2-2 with Yeovil in the English League One yesterday.

The 33-year-old defender scored in the 39th minute, a goal that drew Tranmere level after they had conceded a goal through Matt Harold's fifth-minute strike.

Harrold struck again to make it 2-1 in the 69th minute before Chris Greenacre gave Tranmere a share of the points with a close-range goal.

Searching desperately for the equaliser after Harrold's early strike, Tranmere found it when Gareth Roberts' cross found Ian Sharpes who flicked on at the near post for Goodison's header to beat the Yeovil custodian from six yards out.

It was Goodison's second goal for the club since joining the northwest England team during the 2003-04 season.

JOHN SCORES FOR COVENTRY

In the Championship, Trinidad and Tobago lead striker Stern John scored the lone goal for Coventry as they crashed 4-1 to Crewe.

Billy Jones and Madjid Bougherra gave Crewe a 2-0 lead after just 17 minutes, but John pulled one back for Coventry with a header in the 23rd minute.

Luke Rodgers, however, struck a minute later to send Crewe 3-1 up before Gareth Taylor sealed the victory with his 61st minute strike.

Barbadian international Paul Ifill also found the back of the nets for Sheffield United as they restarted their push for promotion with a 3-0 win over Southampton in the Championship.

Ifill, who joined the club at the start of the season, scored on the brink of half-time after Phil Jagielka had opened the scoring in the 43rd minute.

Neil Shipperley formalised the rout with another goal in the 77th minute.
