WOLMER'S BOYS and St. Jago will be looking to rebound from disappointing finishes in the KFC/ISSA High School Basket-ball Southern Conference when they take aim at the National Basketball Champion-ships in their first set of play-off games today.

Wolmer's, placed in Zone B along with Muschette and Central Conference second-placed team St Elizabeth, will take on the latter at 3:00 p.m. at the National Stadium, while St Jago battle Northern Conference runners-up Ocho Rios at Buckfield in Zone C.

GOOD START

The teams got off to sensational starts but came up second best to Javan Bailey's St Catherine. St Jago crashed out of the competition at the semi-final stage while Wolmer's were turned back 2-1 in the best-of-three final series. On both occasions, the teams saw impressive win streaks grind to a halt, St Jago at 11-0 and Wolmer's at 10-0.

At 11-1 and 10-2, they still boast two of the better records in the competition and now they will have their sights set on achieving at least some measure of success after such a strong start.

However, Southern Conference champions St. Catherine have already gotten off to a strong start over in Zone A. On Wednesday, led by 24 points, seven steals and seven assists from Bailey and 26 points and 14 rebounds from big man Noel Wright, they turned back Belair 58-42 at the National Stadium.

JC FALLS

In Wednesday's other game, Northern Conference champions Old Habour, led by 26 points and eight assists from Philip Reid, demolished Jamaica College 70-55. Old Harbour also triumphed in Under-16 play when they got by Wolmer's 56-45. In the day's second Under-16 game Ardenne narrowly clipped Holmwood 64-63.
