THE CONSUMER Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced that it will be embarking on a schools programme aimed at educating students on consumerism.
"The objective is to inform students of the importance of consumerism," Dolsie Allen, CAC chief executive officer, said during an observation of World Consumer Rights Day at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, New Kingston, on Wednesday.
ISLANDWIDE VENTURE
The programme, intended to be an islandwide venture, has already been established in the Balaclava High School in St. Elizabeth. The club, led by Lasco Teacher of the Year, Patricia Bigby, has as its motto, 'Each One Teach One.'
Other schools that have come on board are the Kingsway High and Alpha Academy. All three schools were recognised for being among the first to form the Consumer Affairs Club.
Information Minister Burchell Whiteman, in addressing the gathering, said: "I would urge our young people in particular, to make as much use as possible of the information which the CAC provides."
The CAC will officially launch the programme in two weeks.
