PORT MARIA, St. Mary:
GROUND HAS been broken and the prospect of a healthy environment for teaching and learning is on the way for the staff and students of Bromley Primary in Lewis Store, St. Mary. Students and teachers alike are extremely anxious about the completion of the school, as they have all been looking forward to it, as it has been a long time coming.
In an interview, Councillor Levan Freeman, of the Belfield division of the St. Mary Parish Council, said he is extremely happy with the venture. "This is well appreciated and apart from providing employment to many residents of Lewis Store and adjoining communities, it contributes to the development of the community," he said.
12-MONTH PROJECT
The project, which has been financed by a $48-million loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), in collaboration with the government which contributed $31.5 million, was awarded to W.A Reid Construction Company Limited. The construction is projected to last for about 12 months.
"We are working as hard as we can to finish this school as quickly as possible, for we know all too well that this school building is really needed by the teachers and students at Bromley," said a labourer on site.
Bromley Primary teachers, who have suffered the test of time by educating their young under cramped and crowded conditions for many years, are extremely overjoyed that "morning is on the way".
"We are extremely elated that finally we will have a new school building, as I believe this will enhance learning; we have waited for this for a long time," said a teacher at the institution.
