MISS JAMAICA UNIVERSE CONTESTANTS 2006 - Stephanie McLean
published: Friday | March 17, 2006

Stephanie McLean, Miss Lubriderm Moisturising Lotion. - CONTRIBUTED

Name: Stephanie McLean

Age: 20 years

Height: 5'-9"

Weight: 125 lb

Occupation: Television personality

Vital statistics: 33, 24, 35

DG: Why did you decide to enter the competition?

SM: I decided to enter this year because I believe I am in the position to serve as an ambassador for Jamaica internationally. I have graduated from university and have travelled to many places and I think I now have what it takes to sell Jamaica to the world.

DG: What is your definition of a beauty queen?

SM: A beauty queen is somebody who is more than just beautiful on the outside, but also beautiful on the inside. She also has a purpose, and is passionate about not only developing herself, but also developing others. She can also be a role model for people.

DG: What do you expect to achieve by entering this competition?

SM: I would like to be crowned Miss Jamaica Universe and also win the coveted Miss Universe Crown. I would want to continue my work and also Racquel's work on HIV/AIDS and develop a programme to help inner-city youths and women.

DG: What do you consider to be your best asset?

SM: My personality. I am very charismatic.

DG: How would you sell Jamaica to a foreigner in light of the high crime rate?

SM: I would say everywhere in the world you go there is crime, there is positive and there is negative. There is so many things going on for Jamaica. Aside from it being a beautiful island, we have some of the most beautiful persons in the world. And I have travelled to a few other countries and no other has managed to invoke what Jamaica has done for me, despite Jamaica having a high crime rate. The land is green and the sun still shines, so come to Jamaica."

DG: What do you love most about Jamaica?

SM: I would have to say it is a close one between the people and our culture. There is this spirit of Jamaica that will capture you in an instant. We will be loving at one instance and be arguing the next. But persons all over want to embody our spirit. The people are a close, close second.

DG: If you could meet one person, who would it be and why?

SM: I would want to meet Oprah Winfrey, because like myself she has a gift of 'gab' so I would like to find out from her how she has managed to make so much money from it, so I could follow in her footsteps.

DG: If you were to win the title, what sector of society would you work with and why?

SM: I would definitely want to work with inner-city young women between the ages of eight and 21 years old. I believe that women, especially in Jamaica, are the backbone of our society, and I think a lot of the times we don't recognise and assert how much power we have as mothers, girlfriends and daughters. I don't believe most notice the power we have to change society.

DG: If you were the Prime Minister, what changes would you make and how would you go about making those changes?

SM: I would make some changes to the education sector. During university I was a political science major and this was my area of interest. I would channel more revenue in education and give more people access to education and in addition I would channel more money in our media and music. Both are doing well and could channel more lots of revenue for our country, and also I believe that it would provide numerous employment opportunities for our people.

DG: What do you hope to achieve in five years?

SM: I have applied to the University of London to pursue my Masters Degree and have also applied to law school. In five years I hope to have a JD MBA and a law degree, and I hope to be working in entertainment law or development media. I also hope that I could find 'Mr. Right' and start a family.
