T&T: Gov't allocates millions of dollars to fight AIDS
published: Friday | March 17, 2006

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):

GOVERNMENT HAS allocated TT$500 million to fight the deadly HIV/AIDS virus, Community Development, Culture and Gender Affairs Minister Joan Yuille-Williams has announced.

The minister noted Wednesday that several programmes had already started in communities throughout the country in an effort to combat the disease.

"Many people may ask why we are spending so much money on this venture.

It is because the HIV/AIDS virus could wipe out the present and future human capital in this country," she said.

Mrs. Yuille-Williams added that too many people, especially those in the working age group, have been infected with the virus.
