Global builders to construct bus terminus

THE COMPANY building what will become the tallest building in the world located in Dubai is also designing and building Jamaica's future transport centre in Half-Way Tree.

The construction company, Besix Jamaica Limited which is a joint venture of the Belgium-based Besix Group and Kier, a Caribbean construction subsidiary of the United Kingdom-based Kier Group, is currently subcontracted to design and construct the Ministry of Transport's bus terminal in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew.

Both Kier and Besix, the larger shareholder, partnered to form the Jamaican local company Besix Jamaica Limited specifically for bus terminal project. The Besix Group provides engineering, and construction services on commercial, infrastructure and marine projects worldwide.

It is engaged in over 60 projects across the world and its involvement in Jamaica is its first and only project in the Americas.

The Half-Way Tree bus terminal will consist of two levels covered by a steel canopy and will include a retail space for offices and a terrace. The project has a US$41 million budget.

The Besix Group is at present building the Burj Dubai Tower in the city of Dubia, United Arab Emirates. The Tower will be 705 metres high comprising of residential and commercial space including the Dubai mall, the biggest shopping centre in the world. The project is slated to be completed in December 2008 at a cost of US$ 876.36 million.
