Montego Bay disrupted by gun violence
published: Thursday | March 9, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE MONTEGO Bay Police are maintaining a strong presence in the Rosemount, Glendevon and Salt Spring communities following a shoot-out between rival gangs between Tuesday night and yesterday morning.

A team of policemen who responded to the shooting about 1:00 a.m. were reportedly greeted by gunfire in the Glendevon area, leading to a standoff.

Two men were reportedly shot and injured by the gunmen's bullets during the incident.

"We understand there is a gang war between the Zig Zag crew from Rosemount and the Stone Crushers (Glendevon)," Detective Inspector Paul Bernard told The Gleaner. "Our intelligence is that they have a long-standing dispute and the police were caught in the middle."

CARTRIDGES RECOVERED

An assortment of nine-millimetre, .45 and shotgun cartridges were also recovered from the scene.

Meanwhile, two persons were found dead in separate incidents in St. James.

The body of 16-year-old Tafari McCrae, a student of Ruseas High School in Hanover, was found about 8:30 p.m. along a dirt track in Albion Lane, Montego Bay.
