Deadly dealing? Businessman missing - Doctor, others questioned by police
published: Tuesday | March 7, 2006

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

SEVERAL PERSONS including a medical doctor are being investigated in connection with the disappearance of a 53 year-old businessman, who recently returned to the island from the United Kingdom.

According to a high-ranking officer of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the doctor has been questioned on at least two occasions and released, but the investigations continue.

The missing man is Ewart Alphanso Hylton, who is popularly known as 'Gold Teeth' and who was said to have transacted business with the doctor. Reports reaching The Gleaner are that on February 28, Hylton left home in the company of the doctor to collect money that was owed to him by the doctor.

A relative explained yesterday that the money was part of a loan to the doctor more than a year ago. Based on the arrangement, the loan should have been repaid in January.

"Last Tuesday the doctor man took him somewhere in Cross Roads, Kingston, saying he was going to collect the money and give him, since then he has not been seen," said the relative, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

ALLEGATIONS

There are allegations that Mr. Hylton was paid over US$11,000 (J$700,000), then he and the doctor went their separate ways in Cross Roads. Mr. Hylton's silver BMW X-5 motor vehicle has also gone missing.

"We are appealing to anybody who has seen Mr. Hylton or his vehicle to call Flying Squad at 922-3003, Crime Stop, Operation Kingfish or the nearest police," said Deputy Superintendent Cornwall "Bigga" Ford who is leading the investigations.
