ST MARY: Grays Inn
published: Tuesday | February 21, 2006

This huge pile of stones will be used to fill this gaping hole in the road at Grays Inn, St. Mary.

AT GRAYS Inn, the news team encountered a huge crater in the little track they call their road.

The crater was caused when the road collapsed late last year. In addition to affecting their livelihood, the gigantic hole poses grave danger to the residents, especially children.

One man injured himself after falling into it one night. That prompted men from the community to get stones from a nearby river bed to fill the huge hole.

The giant-size stones were lifted with their bare hands and loaded into a truck and transported to the scene.

It is not the first time the road has broken away.

"They (Government officials) came and said that they were going to fix it March. But we can't wait until March, because we have we produce up inna the hills," complained one farmer.

Apart from roads, the residents have no piped water and no street lights.

"They must do betta than that. Can't wait 'til election time you come bitch up something," a resident exclaimed.
