Christianity under attack
published: Tuesday | February 21, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Christianity is under attack in Jamaica. We are daily victims of violence and abuse, while the country reels drunkenly from the blows of corruption and moral breakdown. Yet the country does not die. The tiny thread that holds Jamaica from plunging into the abyss of anarchy is the faith and prayers of the long-suffering Christians of the nation.

However the proposed Charter of Rights is set to muzzle the Church and discriminate against the very Christians who are the moral fibre of this land.

Good laws give all of us greater freedom. The new Charter of Rights proposes greater freedom by removing basic rights that all Jamaicans now enjoy.

'Eternal Father', as we sing in our anthem, ... "be our Leader, Great Defender", ... Keep us free from evil powers.

I am, etc.,

BRIAN deCASSERES
