Make the laws clear
published: Tuesday | February 21, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WANT to commend Dr. Livingstone Thompson for his very timely column on Sunday, February 5.

Both Uganda and Nigeria as a counter to the homosexual movement have passed laws making gay marriage an offence. We may or may not want to go that far but for certain we ought to take some pre-emptive steps to buttress true marriage. Here are some recommendations:

1. Delete the references to 'privacy' in the Charter of Rights.

2. Include the heterosexual definition of marriage in the Marriage Act;

3. Give tax break to married couples.

We urge the Government to act now since as Dr. Thompson warned, the Philistines are indeed upon us!

I am, etc.,

S. RICHARDS
