DaCosta, Morgan double winners at Camperdown Classic

IMMACULATE'S MEISHA-GAY DaCosta and Man-chester High's Neisha Morgan were double winners at last Saturday's first renewal of the 4E-sponsored Camperdown Classic held at the Stadium East complex.

DaCosta won the Class Three long jump and high jump with leaps of 5.20m and 1.70m respectively.

She defeated St. Andrew High's Deniel Shaw (5.10m) and Taneisha Clarke of St. Jago (4.93m) in the long jump while Kathie-Lee Leudley of St. Andrew (1.63m) and Pio Phillips of Immaculate (1.63m) placed behind her in the high jump.

Morgan secured her victories in the Class Two 800m and 1500m events.

In the 800m, Morgan stopped the clock in 2:17.05 to beat St. Jago's Yanique Haye (2:18.11) and St. Andrew High's Sanchia Lee (2:18.39).

Morgan returned late in the evening to win the 1500m in 4:45.71, beating St. Jago's Peta-Gaye Hamilton (4:59.50).

Manchester High with Natoya Goule was also victorious in the Class Three 1500m. Goule led a Manchester sweep of the top three places as she won in 4:41.92 ahead of teammate Kimberly Brown (4:57.26) and Sharlene Brown (5:02.58).

In the girls' Class One event, Mellisha Thomas of Queen's took top honours in 5:17.12 while JC's Andre Thomas (4:04.89) beat Bog Walk's Ryon Lawrence (4:09.60) for the boys' senior title.

Sean Robinson of Calabar (4:13.41) won Class Two over Bog Walk's Austin Brown (4:15.09).

It Dat Track Club's Jenice Daley was a double winner in the club/institution section. Daley won the women's 100m in 13.09 and the 400m in 58.0.

IMPRESSIVE WIN

Teo Bennett of Jamaica College was also impressive, winning the boys' Class One 400m in 47.7 seconds. Wolmer's Josef Robertson was second overall in 48.6 and Camper-down's Rayon Lawrence (48.7).

In other 400m results, Queen's Crystal Wilson (55.5) won the girls' Class One over Manchester's Stephanie Nelson (57.7) while St. Andrew's Latoya McDermot (55.9) took Class Two ahead of St. Jago's Yanique Haye (56.5).

Andre Pickergill of KC (52.77) won the boys' Class Three 400m while Manchester High's Sasha-Gay Tracy (52.77) took the girls' equivalent.

Campion's Theon O'Connor (1:52.02) beat Andre Thomas of Calabar (1:53.02) for the boys' Class One 800m title.

Akeen Smith won the Gleaner/Youthlink-sponsored boys' Class Three long jump with a leap of 5.75m. He defeated his teammates Oniel Rose (5.71m) and Tarvis Durrant (5.59) in a Calabar sweep.

In the relays, hot Boys Champs favourites Camperdown with World Junior bronze medallist Remaldo Rose on the second leg, ran 44.77 seconds to win $60,000 from 4E to help with Penn Relays expenses.

Queen's who won the girls event in 48.13 were also presented with $60,000.

Calabar (45.08) won the boys' Class Three, Manchester (46.64) won the girls' Class Three and Calabar (47.69) took the boys' Class Four.

Kimona Smith of Morant Bay (5.32) won the girls' Class Two long jump; Marsha Mattiahs of St. Jago (1.68m) took the high jump Class One.
