Jamaica College look to lower the colours of St. Jago
published: Monday | February 13, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

JAMAICA COLLEGE could end the KFC sponsored ISSA High School Basketball Southern Conference second round with a perfect 3-0 record, if they can find a way to bring the nine-game winning streak of zone A winners St. Jago to an end when the teams face off at 3:30 p.m. today at the National Stadium courts.

Since qualifying for the second round in the fourth place spot, Jamaica College have won their last two games, which saw them notch victories over zone B qualifiers Tivoli and Kingston College. With just one game left and two wins so far, they are already virtually assured of a spot in the semi-finals, which are scheduled to tip off this Thursday. A win against the team with the most wins so far this season would go a long way in boosting their confidence.

St. Jago grabbed their first win of the second round when they dispatched Tivoli last Monday. However, unrest in Spanish Town which caused the subsequent closure of the schools, saw the postponement of their match in last week's game against Kingston College.

A win today and a loss for Kingston College against Tivoli in the day's other encounter, would see both themselves and Jamaica College through to the next round. However, St. Jago's fortunes will to a large extent still depend on the availability of big man Adrian Forbes, who is still nursing a groin injury. The centre who has averaged a double, so far this season got an opportunity to rest with the postponement of the Kingston College fixture last week, but reports indicate that the player may still be a game time decision in today's fixture.
