Weakness in our political system
published: Monday | February 13, 2006

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE DESTRUCTIVE bid for power by the People's National Party presidential candidates reveals an inherent weakness in our political system, which needs to be immediately addressed.

How could we, in a democracy, hand over our right to elect the leader of our country to the delegates of any single political party? God forbid, but what if the leader who is elected by the delegates dies? Do they get to choose for us again? This is absolute madness.

No wonder it is being played out on the current political stage with such drama. Be that as it is right now, let us remind the person who becomes Prime Minister of all Jamaica:

The Jamaica you are going to lead is a nation destined to "increase in beauty, fellowship and prosperity" with a God-given purpose to "advance the welfare of the whole human race."

They will only be governed by "true wisdom from above." They are the ones who have been declaring "justice, truth be ours forever", which must be fulfilled in your time, in order that the nation be preserved. They must see you as an example of the things you ask us to do and to be.

TIRED OF CRIME

Remember that they are tired of the corruption, tired of crime, tired of lies, tired of stealing, tired of environmental decay, tired of human decay, tired of self-serving politics, tired of the talk, talk, talk, talk, talk without effective action. Remember that the Jamaicans you are going to lead can be motivated to either build or destroy.

'Eternal Father Bless Our Land'.

I am, etc.,
