THE DOUBLE murder of two priests on the premises of the Missionaries of the Poor almost four months ago is still an unsolved mystery.
In fact, the case is giving the police all they can handle. Deputy Superintendent (DSP) V.B. Austin, officer in charge of crime at the Central Police Station, told The Gleaner last week that there was no new development in the case.
"We are still labouring on it ... trying to turn the corner on it," said DSP Austin.
He admitted that the mystifying murders of the two trainee priests, who were shot and killed, have proved very difficult for the police to crack. However, he could not say why the case was so challenging.
"If I knew why it was so difficult maybe we could solve it," DSP Austin reasoned.
WAITING ON TEST RESULTS
The senior officer also re-vealed that his team was awaiting the results of swab tests that were done on the hands of persons who were on the Roman Catholic complex at the time of the murders. DSP Austin also said that the investigating team is still soliciting witnesses to aid in solving the case.
Last October, Brothers Suresh Barwa, 31, and Marco Cande-lario Laspura, 22, were among 15 other brothers washing dishes in the kitchen when a single bullet punched a small hole in Barwa's head. The bullet went through and struck Laspura who was standing beside him.
Brother Barwa died on the kitchen floor while Brother Laspura succumbed to his injuries at the Kingston Public Hospital.
