NCB: Customer service at its best
published: Tuesday | January 24, 2006

A few weeks ago I opened an OMNI Educator for my god-daughter at the National Commercial Bank's Boulevard Super Centre location, and I felt like customer of the year.

My original account is at the University of the West Indies (UWI) branch and the account had been inactive for a number of years. Since I left university and forgot the personal identity number (PIN), I just left whatever deposit was in the account without a second thought.

Audrey Stennett of the UWI branch called me on my cellphone and informed me of the procedure to reactivate my account (I had put in a standing order to have the monthly premiums deducted from that account).

Though the wait in the bank was a bit lengthy, she called me three times to find out if I was getting through and whether the branch was full, etc. She even gave me the name of a manager I should speak to if I was having any problems. I felt like I was there to deposit a million dollars.

The icing on the cake, however, was Ms. Green at the Boulevard Super Centre branch. She was so brisk and thorough even though my account was at another branch. She even took my deposit to one of the tellers, eliminating any further delay for me in a teller line.

Despite the fact that I spent over an hour and a half in the bank, the royal treatment made up for it, and it was time well spent.
