THE EDITOR, Sir:
AS A citizen of this country, Jamaica, I have been observing a new trend that has been taking place in Parliament among our political leaders.
One of the most important issues that is affecting this country is crime and violence. The Minister of National Security, Peter Phillips, is using all kind of strategies to decrease or eradicate crime in Jamaica. So far, it has been of little help to us; but I just want to say to him, keep on doing what he is doing.
TAKE A LOOK WITHIN
But I want to take a keen look at what is happening within the political arena amongst the ministers of Government.
Just as how a war is going on, on the outside, so is a war going on between the political leaders. Whenever a Member of Parliament is giving a speech, there is always a negative comment about the other party.
Whenever those who are in leadership cannot sit and have a discussion about the affairs of our country without some persons leaving because they can't resolve issues; there is heated dialogue going back and forth; there is no form of respect for each other; then something is wrong with those who we put to lead this country.
The ministers of this country are of high educational background, trained in the highest education system, either in Jamaica or overseas, so that's a plus to their name. It's just that I cannot understand why there are so many unresolved issues going on between them all.
Is this just a show of the kind of politics they are portraying and then behind the scenes they are friends? Well, if this is so, then this is a high level of hypocrisy taking place amongst them.
Let's take into consideration many persons in this country are illiterate when it comes to politics. I myself also. We are very ignorant.
So, when they portray these kinds of behaviour in the eyes of the public, then many of the people who are ignorant continue to do the wrong things because of leaders who are not setting any form of example.
GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY
I have been in this country all my life and there has always been a political feud going on between the Jamaica Labour Party and the People's National Party.
There's got to be a better way to help this country. We can't just be at each other's throat everyday of our lives. They are not going anywhere with that kind of behaviour. Change the strategy and approach to each.
They all say they love this country, but I wonder sometimes if it is the country and the people you love or is it power to lead that is the major problem amongst you all. I assume then that you love your country, so if it so, please work together for the benefit of the people of this country.
Forgetting the past, move ahead and let us build this beautiful island that God has us living in, and let God's glory be seen in this island of ours.
The main source for us surviving in this country is God. It's all about Him. You just all take a time, look into yourselves and ask the question: am I doing all this for myself or am I doing this that God can be pleased with me?
Ministers of Parliament, let God be the main person in your lives.
I am, etc.,
