NORMAN FOSTER, who filled the roles of player/coach in Seba United's Red Stripe Champions Cup KO match against Mount Pelier on Wednesday night at Jarrett Park, believes if they play with the same level of discipline they will win the competition.
Seba started their campaign in emphatic style, with a 4-0 blanking of Mount Pelier. Foster was naturally elated with his team's performance, especially their booming start.
"We got the first half goal we wanted and we just went on to press home our advantage in the second half," said Foster.
"It was a disciplined performance and it should auger well for our overall objective to win this competition."
Their victory came courtesy of goals by Delroy Ellis, Wilfred Smith, Omar Reid and Scion McNish.
SUPERB PASS
After threatening in the opening exchanges, Seba took the lead in the 19th minute. On a speedy break down the middle, Ellis pounced on a superb pass from Foster and cracked a fierce shot past goalkeeper Damion Cunningham, making the half-time score 1-0.
In the second half, Seba went further ahead in the 70th minute when Smith fired home a low cross from Torrey Samuels. Seven minutes later, substitute Reid made it 3-0 when his close range shot crashed into the roof of the net. The overlapping McNeish sealed the issue in the 90th minute when his close range effort gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Unlike Seba, their Montego Bay premier league counterparts, Wadadah, faltered badly as they could only manage a come from behind 2-2 draw against Tafari Lions.
St. Elizabeth's Tafari Lions grabbed a 2-0 advantage through goals from Kirk Fletcher and Errol Wright, but Jermaine Anderson (penalty) and Rohan Reid pulled Wadadah level.
Tafari Lions deservingly took the lead in the sixth minute when Fletcher latched onto a corner kick and slotted past goalkeeper Gavine Barrett, making the score 1-0.
A CRACKING SHOT
Tafari Lions went further ahead in the 21st minute when the Wadadah defence cracked for the second time under relentless pressure. A cracking shot by Nevrich Barrett deflected from the right upright and fell into the path of Wright. He fired home gleefully, making the half-time score 2-0.
"It was a brilliant first half for us but inexperience hurt us in the second half as we lost our composure," said Tafari Lions' coach Linval 'Palla' Wilson. "It was nonetheless a satisfying performance, considering our opponent is a seasoned National Premier League team."
