Reid on loan at W'house
published: Saturday | January 21, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

WATERHOUSE FOOTBALL Club's chase of Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) leaders Harbour View received a major boost as they have now inked national player Garfield Reid on loan for the rest of the season from struggling Rivoli United.

Reid, who began the season injured, had been a very influential player for a Rivoli United team which is now at the bottom of the league standings with 15 points. On Wednesday the clubs agreed to terms which would see the player join the Waterhouse squad for the final 11 NPL games this season.

RIGHT CLIMATE

Waterhouse vice-president Donovan White believes that the climate is right for Reid to make an impact for the team, which is now in second place with 43 points, eight behind Harbour View.

"We expect him to be able to make a meaningful contribution. He is a national player, a quality player, and we expect to do what he has to do to raise his game. That is the reason we went out and got him," he said.

Reid, known for his powerful and at times lethal left foot, arrives at the club just ahead of tomorrow's colossal clash against the 'Stars of the East'. Though the encounter will not add any points to either team, Waterhouse have not beaten Harbour View all season and a victory at the National Stadium tomorrow may give them much needed confidence.

However, as to whether Reid will be making his debut for the club in this crucial encounter is still pretty much up in the air and White has insisted that it is entirely up to coach Wayne Fairclough.

Fairclough is pleased with Reid's progress so far and has hinted that it is quite possible that they player will make his appearance.

"It is very possible that we will be using him on Sunday. He is responding well to his new surrounding. He's a great find, he will play well. We have a better unit than Rivoli and he has meshed well with them so far," he said.
