NO IT wasn't ringing in the new year, but at times it felt like it.

Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, threw his media appreciation party at Eden Gardens on December 30, a day before New Year's eve. Probably a good idea, because he might have given guests a hard time to decide which party to attend.

Everyone knows the Mayor as a man of action and seeing the dance floor empty, you can guess what he did. With wife Marcia in tow, he proceeded to drop legs. Sure enough, that got guests out of their seats and soon there wasn't enough space.

Last year, members of the media were presented with tokens for their support to the KSAC. This year the tokens went to the Jamaica Military and Regiment bands. The Mayor also took a few minutes to express satisfaction that the Christmas dinner fund had exceeded its two million dollar target. He said that ten thousand persons stand to benefit from these funds and that was enough reason for everyone to smile.

But soon enough, the focus was back on dancing. As soon as guests had digested the tasty morsels on hand, the DJ started to crank up the big disco hits. Once again, the head of the KSAC did his Moses impression by getting everyone back on the floor. No wonder he had 'threatened' to confiscate the chairs which many persons had chosen to occupy before the dancefest broke out.
