THE EDITOR, Sir:The NDM is lamenting the actions of the citizens of St. Elizabeth in reaction to the killing of an alleged criminal by the police. This, the NDM has been saying, would naturally be the expected result of citizens against police and anyone who seemingly supports suspicious justice, when the citizens feel that this is the straw that breaks the camel's back.
NDM vice-president, Apollone Reid, has noted the increase in the incidence of police shootings since the not-guilty verdict of Mr. Adams and five other police officers which gives the appearance of an ensuing pattern.
To continue to use a justice system, seen by the majority of Jamaicans as skewed against their rights or opportunity to determine their innocence or guilt, is foolishly setting the stage for increased civil disobedience.
The NDM is therefore calling on Government to immediately revamp the present justice system, putting in place fundamentals that ensure that the law of this land is synonymous with morality by including solutions expected to emerge from the NDM's executive retreat this weekend.
I am, etc.,
