Security officer lauded for heroics
published: Thursday | January 5, 2006

Rege Andrew, Gleaner Writer

ORLANDO WATSON, a security officer with Hawkeye Electronic Security Ltd, has been commended for his act of bravery in rescuing an elderly gentleman from the jaws of death. Furthermore, his employers are extremely pleased with his heroics and are thankful for such small mercies.

Rockey Clarke, operations manager of Hawkeye Electronic Security Ltd., was exhilarated in commending Senior Security Officer Watson for the actions that were performed last month in the Kingston area. While his response team was in the Kingston area investigating an incident, Watson was involved in saving a man from the flames of a home located on 54 Norbrook Drive.

"We are proud to be involved in a business that helps to assist with the state apparatus of protecting lives and property. We consider this part of doing our civic duty for the well-being of the nation," exclaimed Clarke.

Watson was part of the group led by Assistant Supervisor Linton White that went to 56 Norbrook Drive, last December 16, during the early morning hours in response to an alarm from a resident. While in the area, the officers noticed that the adjacent house was on fire and there were shouts for help coming from inside the house. Watson boldly entered the building by smashing his way through a glass window, and despite the bellowing smoke and flames, was able to get one of the two occupants in the house at the time, to safety.

The man was taken to the University Hospital of the West Indies and admitted. Unfortunately, the other person who was in the house during the fire, perished.

Watson, 30, a former soldier, has been employed with Hawkeye Electronic Security for the past nine months. His conduct and attitude to work have been described an exemplary.

"He is a disciplined young man, with a strong military background and is very enthusiastic about his work," Clarke said.

Hawkeye Electronic Security is involved in the installation of electronic gadgets at homes and business places and the officers use patrol cars to monitor developments in the city and surrounding areas, pertaining to their clients.
