WESTERN BUREAU:
SIXTEEN POLICEMEN attached to the St. Elizabeth Police Division, received their chevrons following a promotion exercise in the parish, yesterday.
The group, which included five sergeants, three detective corporals and six corporals, is a part of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) promotions announced by Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas late last year.
Superintendent-in-charge of the St. Elizabeth Police Division, Fitzgerald Barrett told The Gleaner that the latest round of promotions has affected all levels of personnel within the division.
Of note, he said, was the promotion within the ranks of the traffic department.
DISGRUNTLED OFFICERS
"For some time, officers attached to the traffic department were disgruntled over the lack of promotions," he said. "The promotion of two officers within that department has significantly lessened the tension."
Newly-promoted corporal, Noel Ford of the traffic department said that he, along with fellow officer Corporal Richie Richardson, was happy with the upward movement.
"After more than 12 years of being a Constable I am now pleased to know that the contribution I have made by being a founding member of the St. Elizabeth Bicycle Patrol Team and later as a traffic officer has reaped rich rewards," he said.
