PORT-OF-SPAIN (Trinidad Express):

SIR EVERTON Weekes wants to see Brian Lara leading the West Indies cricket team again, but Sir Vivian Richards is not sure who should get the job.

In an interview with the Barbados Nation newspaper yesterday, the former West Indies captain said he did not necessarily disagree with Sir Everton, who had made the call last week in an Express interview. But Sir Viv is not as positive that Lara's return to the helm would solve the problems facing the Windies.

In an interview from Antigua, Sir Viv said the situation was so dire he was not sure which member of the team he would pick.

"I don't know. I don't know ... It's a really tough one ... I just don't know," was Sir Viv's initial reply.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul has struggled in the job since he took it up earlier this year. He replaced Lara who was sacked by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB).

With Chanderpaul's failures, other candidates such as Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds and Ramnaresh Sarwan, the current vice-captain who was also deputy under Lara, have emerged.

Chanderpaul has not won a Test series. His record as captain in 11 Tests is one win, two draws, eight defeats.

In four Tests at home against South Africa, the results were two draws, two defeats; in two at home against Pakistan - one win, one defeat; in two away to Sri Lanka - two defeats; and in three in Australia - three defeats.
