Jones Town feud claims three more victims
published: Tuesday | December 27, 2005

Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

ON SATURDAY, as most Jamaicans were preparing to celebrate Christmas, the violence that has devastated the community of Jones Town, South St. Andrew for most of the year, continued unabated, claiming three lives within a matter of hours.

A 20-year-old man, Jerome Green, was murdered at 12:40 p.m. along Rodney Street by gunmen on Christmas Eve. About four hours later, a motorist who operated a taxi along the Penso Street route in Jones Town, was one of two victims shot and killed in a shooting incident in downtown Kingston.

ATTACKED BY GUNMEN

He has been identified as 44-year-old Wayne Duncan of a Seaview Avenue address in Old Harbour Glades, St. Catherine. Up to press time yesterday, the second victim, a woman, was yet to be identified. Police reports said Mr. Duncan and the woman were travelling in his Toyota Corolla motor car when they were attacked by a group of gunmen along Luke Lane.

Reports are that the woman who was hit first, died while being treated at hospital. Duncan, after he was shot, lost control of the vehicle which crashed into a Mitsubishi car that was parked at the intersection of Beeston Street and Luke Lane. He attempted to outrun the gunmen but was chased and shot multiple times. He died on the spot.

JONES TOWN LINKS

While the police believe that the woman was at the wrong place at the wrong time, preliminary investigations have revealed that Mr. Duncan may have been killed because of his links to the Jones Town community.

Reports reaching The Gleaner are that he used to live in the community and had recently moved out, but was still operating his taxi. The ongoing gang feud which has escalated over the past year has been impacting negatively on the schools in the area. There have been daily reports of sporadic shooting.

More than 50 persons have already been killed. Among the vicious incidents is the October shooting of eight persons, including a five-year-old girl on Mulgrave Lane. Three of the victims died, while the gunmen firebombed a tenement before making their escape.
