THIS YEAR'S Mini Miss Jamaica wants to make a significant mark on her country.
Jillian Jo Taylor, only 10 years old, says she wants to become a judge, because "I want to see more women in the justice system, and I think I can improve the system in our country"
Jillian Jo won the title 'Mini Miss Jamaica 2005' last Sunday night at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, New Kingston.
"I decided to enter the
competition because I wanted to meet new friends and gain
exposure and confidence ... When
I won I felt proud and really good about winning," she said.
She said she started preparing for the competition in October. "I had to learn how to walk, how to speak, how to introduce myself and now the competition helped me become a better person. I want to thank my parents for entering me and for their support. They told me that even if I didn't win that's okay, because I was still a winner. My teachers also supported me and helped me with choreography and teaching me to play the drum," Jillian Jo said.
PLANNED OUT
Jillian Jo is a grade five student at the St. Peter and Paul Preparatory School , but she pretty much has her life planned out already. "I want to go to Campion College after this, then I want to go to Oxford University to study law," she said.
If that's not enough, Jillian Jo is already planning on the next competition she will be entering. "I want to enter the Miss Teen Jamaica and win, but that's not for now though," she said.
She finds time to fit in her immediate plans and hobbies. "For this year I want to help to raise donations for the children in
children's homes for Christmas. I am a Brownie, so I already have to do some of that stuff. For next year, I want to help with a reading lab for the children," she said.
"In my spare time, I like to read and I love to dance. Yeah, I just love to dance, and I like to take my dog Cocoa on walks," she said.
