The Saints Peter and Paul Preparatory School in collaboration with the Ministry of Education hosted International Students' Day recently.

Some 1,000 students in costumed groups representing Asia, Africa, India, Europe, North America, South America, Australia, the Tainos, and the Kalinagos, paraded around the school's football field.

Delrose Burke, dance and drama teacher and coordinator for the event, says that this "fanfare event helped to bring exposure to other nationals and their clothing. Additionally, we hoped to sensitise and bring awareness to our own cultural form which we see evolving beyond the Taino form, and now even influences fashion and architecture and culture internationally."

In tribute to the Taino source of Jamaica's culture, the kindergarten students paraded in costumes under the theme 'Reggae Gone International'.

Attendees at the event were welcomed with Spanish and English presentations, and participated in a devotional theme calling for peace throughout the entire world for our children.

It was followed by a Chinese dance presentation entitled The Seven Colours.

The parade culminated in a food festival of international dishes prepared by the school family.

Special guest presenter for the event was Michael Nicholson of Royal Palm Estate.
