AN 80TH-minute penalty by Lovel Palmer lifted Harbour View to a 1-0 win over Portmore United in their rescheduled Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) encounter at the Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.
Harbour View now have moved to 36 points and have extended their league lead to a whopping 13 points over second-place Portmore.
In a game dominated by the home team, it was Harbour View who made the decisive breakthrough to grab all three points and end Portmore's unbeaten record this season.
A Kemar Petrekin cross was handled in the box and referee Hughill Thompson immediately pointed to the spot. Substitute Palmer converted easily, sending national goalkeeper Shawn Sawyers the wrong way.
Donovan Hayles, coach of Harbour View, was not satisfied with his team's performance although securing full points. "To be honest, we just won the game. I think we played a very poor game. Portmore dominated but their goal scoring never measured up to their dominance," Hayles said.
Although his team is now leading by the proverbial city block, Hayles says he is still not in a comfort zone.
Meanwhile, Horace Reid, technical director of the Portmore team, was also not a pleased man.
"If you are not scoring the goals it will be difficult to win the games. We did enough and with a little bit of luck, we could have won this game," he said.
