ANDERSON
JAMAICA OLYMPIC Association first vice-president, Don Anderson, has been re-elected to the executive of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC). The election took place last week in Havana, Cuba.
The association comprises the Olympic committees of all the English-speaking Caribbean countries, along with Suriname, The Netherlands Antilles, The Dominican Republic and Cuba. Cuba was admitted as a full member of the association at the meeting, having enjoyed associate membership status since the inception of the organisation in 2000.
24 MEMBER COUNTRIES
Twenty-four countries are now members of CANOC.
One of the first major tasks that CANOC has set itself is the staging of the multi-sport Caribbean Games in 2009, which is likely to be held in Trinidad and Tobago.
Anderson, who is one of seven members of the executive of the organisation, is serving his second term of office on the board. He also serves as a director of the central American and Caribbean Games Organisation and as the vice-chairman of Jamaica's Institute of Sports.
