THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ with deep dismay a column published in The Gleaner of Friday, November 18, by a former People's National Party Member of Parliament Heather Robinson, in which she made some imprudent and unfortunate comments about the candidacy of Jamaica's Finance Minister Dr. Omar Davies.
It is recognised that Ms. Robinson has very strong political views but she should be cautioned about venturing down such a path. This divisive approach cannot be in the best interest of her party, the Government and the country.
Ironically, Dr. Davies has stated repeatedly that his campaign for presidency is to be conducted in a world-class manner. He has sought to highlight the positives he has to offer as opposed to ridiculing the performances and reputation of the other candidates.
Indeed, his sterling performance in his constituency (improved sanitation, educational thrust and sports facilties) can stand up to any scrutiny. The respect he has earned in the local and international financial communities is a matter of record.
As we move towards this presidential election, let us all work in unity for the good of our beloved country.
I am, etc.,
H. MANAHAN
