THE CAYMAN Islands is prepared to send a delegation to Jamaica to discuss its new visa restrictions.
Cayman's Leader of Govern-ment Business, Kurt Tibbetts, made the announcement at a press conference last week
in response to a letter from Jamaica's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, K.D. Knight.
Mr. Knight was off the island on official business yesterday and was unavailable for comment. However, the ministry's Director of Communications Wilton Dyer said that he had not received any such offer from the Cayman Government.
"We are unaware of any delegation coming from that government, although we continue to be in touch with them on this same issue," said Mr. Dyer.
The restrictions were introduced following lobbying by Cayman's Chamber of Commerce which argued that Jamaicans were partly responsible for that country's increasing crime rate.
Visa requirements for Jamaicans visiting the Cayman Islands took effect on November 1. Cayman has since opened a visa office in New Kingston.
