Unity is strength
published: Sunday | November 20, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD suggest to all the members of the House of Representatives and also the Senate that they ask RJR to give them a tape of the Hot Line programme on Thursday the 17th of November and they will hear the heart moving appeal of a lady asking the gunmen in her area (Olympic Way) to stop the killing.

That lady has already lost members of her family, but in her appeal she stated that she has forgiven all those who killed members of her family and asked them to please stop the killing. I think anyone listening to that appeal must have cried both for that lady and for Jamaica. Listen to that tape and if you have a heart do something. Unity is strength.

Please do not play into the hands of the criminals by breaking the laws of the land, but what you should do is to invite your followers to stop blocking the roads, burning debris on the road and chopping down trees. It is ironic that all are crying out for repairs to the roads damaged during the recent heavy rains, but have they stopped to think that you cannot repair roads when we are still having rain and more important most of the roads with the heavy damage, part of this damage must rest squarely on the road blockers who burn the roads and thus help to increase the danger of damage during heavy rainfall.

It is imperative that Government and Opposition sit together to try and come up with solutions to the current crime wave.

I am, etc.,

BARBARA COVER

Kingston
