Howard Walker, Staff ReporterCALABAR HIGH and Wolmer's Boys are in pole position to advance to the semi-finals of the ISSA/PEPSI/JN Manning Cup competition when the final set of second round matches takes place today.
Calabar and Eltham High lead Group Two with four points ahead of St. Catherine on three, with Mona yet to get off the mark after two sets of games.
Of the two Group Two encounters, Calabar have the easier task of getting by a Mona team that has nothing to play for. Mona conceded 10 goals in two matches, the last being an
8-0 whipping by Eltham and should pose no problem for title favourites Calabar.
Eltham, on the other hand, will have to overcome a spirited St. Catherine team which still has a glimmer of hope of advancing either as group winners or best second-place team.
With all the possible permutations, both Calabar and Eltham can finish on seven points but Calabar would have to match Eltham's goal difference of plus eight or more to top the group.
In Group One, Wolmer's, like Calabar, play a demotivated Waterford team with no points and should secure the three points necessary to advance.
Wolmer's and Jamaica College (JC) are locked on four points but JC play a St. Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) team on three points and still in with a chance of advancing.
The Group One encounters were all slated for 1:00 p.m. but ISSA rescheduled that fixture late yesterday and all four games will now be played at 3:00 p.m.
STATHS and JC will play at St. George's Winchester Park, Wolmer's will battle Waterford at JC, Eltham will play St. Catherine at Spanish Town Prison Oval and Calabar will challenge Mona at Constant Spring playing field.
