It'll be a Wicky Wacky affair

THE ANNUAL Owners' Association Day race meet is on today at Caymanas Park with all 10 races offering trophies.

The feature event is the 3-y-o and up overnight allowance race for the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers' Association Trophy to be contested by 10 horses over 2000 metres.

Other top races on the card are the Sunnyside Stakes for native-bred maiden two-year-old fillies, to be run in two divisions over 1100 metres, and the Flossie McNeil Memorial Cup 1200 metres for fillies and mares.

The other remaining races on the card have been named for executive members of the Jamaica Racehorse Owners' Association (JROA) including vice-president Louis 'Tony' Phillips, Vin Lumsden and Dave Girod, as well as prominent owners, such as Joseph Duany, Ruth Hussey and Alexander Haber.

The JROA Trophy line-up includes the useful distance horses UNTOUCHABLE and WIMBLEDON, both of whom were unplaced behind MIRACLE MAN in last week's Red Stripe Superstakes over the distance.

Other notable runners include UNLEADED, WICKY WACKY and the stable-companions, DIGI N' JIGGY and METEOR MAN, both from the barn of leading trainer Wayne DaCosta.

UNTOUCHABLE and UNLEADED have already won the distance and in a race of this nature, either could go close in a bid for this trophy. The ageing METEOR MAN is another well capable of winning, despite his unplaced effort behind stable companion, CLOCK WORK, in the Red Stripe Mile last Saturday.

In what looks a dicey affair, my idea of the winner is WICKY WACKY who wasn't disgraced behind the front running CHOSEN ONE in last Saturday's Red Stripe Draught over 1400 metres.

WILL ENJOY MILDER PACE

From the stables of outgoing champion trainer, Philip Feanny, WICKY WACKY raced prominently in third passing the half-mile in that fast-run race, but weakened in the last furlong to finish eight lengths sixth, two lengths ahead of DIGI N' JIGGY. She will surely enjoy this milder pace and with both the distance and handicaps in her favour, must have a grand change of taking home this trophy.

When last venturing over today's distance on August 13, the four-year-old filly by Law Of The Sea out of Miss John B finished 2-1/4 lengths third to UNTOUCHABLE and now assured of strong handling from champion jockey Trevor Simpson, looks the right choice with only 51.0kg.

Other firm fancies on the card are VANAMOS in the second race, recent winner, JACK EM UP, to repeat in the third, BLACK RIVER to catch old rivals QUERIDA and AL'S JEWEL in the Flossie McNeill Memorial Cup in which nine starters have been declared and MUSICAL MAESTRO in the seventh over the straight five course.
