Christmas and guns
published: Saturday | November 19, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE SEASON of Christmas is upon us and everyone is looking forward to what in my opinion is the best season ever. What is happening in Jamaica today is more than our already heavy hearts can bear; guns barking everywhere, the people of our beloved country, the land of wood and water are divided and we are killing each other with guns that were not even made here. In the inner-city communities people who live blocks from each other, whether on lanes, top road or bottom road, neigbours and friends are fighting for control for that which they never put in place nor made.

GOD'S WORLD

This is God's world that they are trying to control. Check this out, 20 guns most of which are high-powered weapons, packaged and shipped to kill poeple in Jamaica. Can you imagine the amount of weapons that pass through our ports and unto our streets. No wonder they out-perform the police in shoot-outs.

I never knew that I would have lived to see the rural areas of Jamaica become contaminated with guns. Every corner you go to these days you hear guys tell you that they will shoot you and don't take them lightly because they will. According to a youth in my area they are heavy, meaning that they are loaded and ready to do somebody something. That's the mentality and society we are living in today.

I am, etc.,
