Democracy, American-style
published: Saturday | November 19, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I AM looking at democracy American-style. The United States is the mother and father of weapons of mass destruction, yet they say no other country is to have them. They must be able to go into any country and kill and destroy because they have nothing to defend themselves and no one dare say anything for if you are not for us, you are against us.

That is democracy U.S. style. Where is the level playing field? Should their side be playing on the level, while the other side is playing on the ledge of a pinnacle? If so, that is democracy U.S. style. When the U.S. can by-pass the United Nations and go into a peaceful country and kill thousands of its people and destroy the country's structure and feel happy, that is democracy U.S. style.

SUPPLIERS TO ISRAEL

The U.S. has supplied Israel with weapons of mass destruction and say none of the other Arab countries must have it - that is democracy U.S. style. The U.S. is accusing Syria of being involved in the assassination of the prime minister of Lebanon and that Syria must be taken to the Security Council.

Right now U.S. is hitting at President Chavez, a man who is trying to help the poor people of the Americas and the Caribbean, Chavez is being described as a threat. That is democracy U.S. style. The U.S. must come to the conclusion that what we want is democracy world style and not democracy U.S. style.

I am, etc.,

FRED ALLEN
