Ras Pete
published: Saturday | November 19, 2005

Mai'khi C'Nia

AND IT came to pass that Ras Pete, a Comrade with wide obligations, who was in pursuit of yet additional strain, a man in whom much of Jamdown was displeased for he hath made a 'boo-boo' of his stewardship of the crime portfolio; the same Ras Pete appeared on national television, and he spake to the people, and unveiled unto them another strategy to combat the juggernaut of the underworld.

And, the Ras pointed to specific ordinances that have been streamlined in the House of Gordon, which art expected to intensify the reining in of the perpetrators of vice in the land. Yea he spoke of seizure-of-assets laws, and of plea bargaining, and such ... and the people saw that this was good. And for once the Ras was not likened unto a chicken whose head hath been lopped.

Behold, the Ras heralded the coming of a new age when law enforcement in Jamdown shall log-on to technological proficiency, when the application of IBIS and fingerprint matching capabilities shall rattle the comfort zone of the violent-prone, and put faces on the rampant acts of criminal antagonism.

'OLE SARGE'

And the Ras spoke of the constabulary, declaring that their numbers shall swell to their ten thousand strong. Behold, 'Ole Sarge' who hath found tranquility behind a desk in administrative heaven shall don his fatigues and proceed to traversing the beat, and the mid-day sun shall roast his pate swiftly recalling a sensation long forgotten. And numerous pensioned sleuths who art long-in-the-tooth, but much accomplished in their day shall rejoin the fray and report to the squad room, to fortify major investigations and school young CIB 'turks' in the acute value of the magnifying glass, e'en in these days of dazzling CSI accoutrements.

Dearly beloved, there hath been much ado about the brethren of Babylonia in this day. They have been vilified, ostracised, blamed, maimed, and e'en executed. Verily I say unto ye, theirs is the most undesired vocation in the land, yet nothing is more honourable than to protect and reassure thy fellow nationals. For to live or e'en to die in their service, is the ultimate sacrifice that can be made by any man or woman who so commit their allegiance to the people.

TRUE DEMONS

Hearken ye, for the constabulary is tainted by some really ugly individuals, and the power of arrest is given unto some true demons, who hath misappropriated the authority of their office and art making thy life downright unbearable. Verily I say to ye, it will require a revolution in the posting of personnel, and an overhaul of the interpersonal construct of Babylonia to regulate its overwhelming deficiencies.

But the time has come to place thy deeds where thy mouth hath been oh Jamdown, for the rock now requires of thee to step forward and be counted this day. Every young adult amongst thee who art literate, numerate, who art in possession of a temperate attitude and a sense of fairness is eligible to serve this land in the office of constabulary, and he need not be a flat-footed 'lanky-lahla', for such stipulations hath no bearing on modern crime-fighting attributes. Thou must, however, be committed to regaining unto the policeman the love, respect, and appreciation, which is appropriate to that most noble and critical profession.

Will thou and thy brethren throw in thy lot with the Ras Jamdown? Or will thou stand by and watch the rock continue to crumble, while thou art demanding an abstract justice, which thou art not prepared to play thine own part in achieving? Choose thou wisely this day, dearly beloved ... the power is in thine own hands. Selah.
