Residents unwilling, says NHT
published: Sunday | November 6, 2005

MANAGER OF the St. Ann branch of the National Housing Trust (NHT), Paul Reid, said that while there are some truth in the allegations made by the beneficiaries, they also have been very unfair to the trust.

He said the NHT is fully aware of the economic status of the residents and have been trying its best to accommodate them, but some are definitely unwilling to pay for the units.

"We have placed them on special lease arrangements ranging from $1,800 to $1,000 per month. We have also made arrangements with HEART Trust to provide training for them at the expense of the NHT so that they can be able to gain employment. But is was difficult to find just over 30 of them who were willing to take up the offer," he explained.
