Bell/Ziadie Memorial on today

CELEBRITIES, ENTERTAINERS and members of the football fraternity will gather at St. George's College at 3:00p.m today for the 19th Bell/Ziadie Memorial football match between a St. George's College Invitational team and a Masters, Celebrities and Entertainers team.

The event organised by Clive 'Busy' Campbell, a former Santos player is held to commemorate the tragic passing of former Jamaican football coaches, Winthorpe 'Jackie' Bell and Dennis Ziadie, who perished in a motor vehicle accident in 1986 in Mexico, where they went to watch the World Cup Finals.

The annual match is also held in honour of past Jamaican footballers and officials. Among this years honorees are Major General John Simmonds C.D., C.V.O., former Jamaica & Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) player Patrick "Nicky" Blair (posthumously), former captain of Jamaica & Railway Pat Anderson O.D., who is also a former president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA), and Clarence Cooke, a former FIFA referee.

Ziadie was once a coach at St. George's, while Bell was a national coach and administrator at Santos Football Club. Admission to the event will be free but patrons are asked to give a donation in aid of needy school children.
