JAMAICA CHAMPIONS Portmore United went on a goal spree as they whipped Hoppers of Antigua and Barbuda 7-0 in their second-leg CONCACAF club championship quarter-final at Antigua Recreation Ground (ARG) yesterday.
Having won the first-leg 3-0 on Friday at the same venue, Portmore advanced to the next round with a 10-0 aggregate margin.
Jamaican international midfielder Omar Daley netted twice - in the 30th and 74th minutes - in a match that saw four players red carded, three from Hoppers.
Kemeel Wolfe opened the scoring for the Jamaicans after 25 minutes, before Daley's run and strike put Portmore 2-0 ahead before half-time.
Just before the break, Hoppers lost two players, Ken Pennyfeather and Wesley Roberts, who along with Portmore's Kevin Deerr were sent off for violent conduct.
Denzil Watson powered in a shot off the post two minutes after the resumption and Avian Reid and Greg Morrison struck within three minutes to make it 5-0 on 68 minutes.
Daley scored his team's sixth in the 74th minute, while Mario Swaby completed the scoring with eight minutes remaining.
Hoppers, who hardly troubled the visitors' defence, lost another player, Mark Richards, who deliberately, brought down a player to deny an obvious goal scoring attempt.
The tournament will crown a Caribbean champion club that will join two clubs each from Mexico and USA, along with three Central American teams, in the CONCACAF Champions' Cup next year, with the winner of that event taking on the best of the world in the 2006 FIFA Club World Championship.
NPL WASH-OUT
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall led to a complete wash-out of yesterday's eighth round fixtures in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League football competition.
The rainy conditions have been affecting a host of competitions islandwide over the past week.
