LAST WEEKEND'S IGL-sponsored cricket festival in Portmore was full of excitement from start to finish.

The two-day festival ended last Sunday with a combined Ken's Wildflower/Elevation team beating the Portsmouth/Rest of Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League team by nine runs in a Twenty/20 match, played at Bridgeport Sports Complex.

Ken's Wildflower/Elevation XI scored 156-5 off 20 overs with former Jamaica Youth player Wayne Billings, 52 off 39 balls (7x4, 1x6), and Junior Stewart, 48 (4x4, 2x6), scoring the most runs while Junior Taylor claimed 2-7.

In reply, Portsmouth/Rest of the League XI were restricted to 147-9, this after they were struggling on 48-4 and 82-7.

Kevin Hinds, 34, and Taylor, 21, top scored. Errol Thomas, 2-16, Marlon Hoilett, 2-17, Deancourt Wright, 2-25, and Denworth Barber, 2-29, took the most wickets.

A kiddies' cricket match, which saw two Under-15 teams named after former West Indies captains Brian Lara and Clive Lloyd, started the day's activities.

Clive Lloyd's XI made 37-8, a total which Lara's XI, coached by Dr. Christine Cummings, replied with 38-7 with a ball to spare.

On Saturday, the Portmore Invitational XI, 206 for nine off 30 overs, defeated the IGL team, 141, by 65 runs in the Curry Goat match.
