Johnson ready to 'make a splash'
published: Wednesday | September 28, 2005

JOHNSON

MIAMI, Florida, CMC:

LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT boxer Glengoffe Johnson is looking to make a big splash in his next fight.

The 36-year-old Johnson, who hails Negril in Jamaica, is set to fight southpaw George Jones on September 30 at the Cache Creek Casino Resort in Brooks, California.

"I am ready and able, and I'm going to make this an exciting fight," Johnson told the Boxing Talk website.

"I'm going to come out, and make a splash, so that people will make a request for me to fight the winner of Antonio Tarver-Roy Jones, Jr. III.

"I'm the next guy out there for them to fight and I want to be impressive so that my name will keep ringing in their ears."

Johnson added he wanted to make a strong statement to the other fights in the division that he is still a strong force with which to be reckoned.

"It really doesn't matter whether Tarver or Jones wins," he said. "I'll fight either one of them.

"I believe Roy will bring me more money, and I also think, based on his skills and talent, that he will beat Tarver. However, I know that I'll beat them both."

Johnson admits that he is ready to fight as long as it lasts, but he's not expecting to go the whole way.

"It's not hard to motivate myself because without this fight I don't get back to where I was," he said.

"So that is my motivation. I want to get back to the elite level where I was, and that is my motivation. Getting motivated has been quite easy for me."

In 54 fights, Johnson has won 42 fights, including 28 knockouts, lost 10, and drew two, while Jones has won 23 of his 26 fights, lost two, and drew one.
