THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with great pleasure that I recall an unfortunate incident that happened to me two weeks ago.
On my way home from work at approximately 8:00 p.m. accompanied by a female co-worker, I realised I had a flat tyre. I decided to 'rim' it to the nearest gas station to solicit assistance.
On reaching Papine Square, I saw only female attendants at the petrol station. With the not so warm reception we did not even bother to ask for their help. We rolled up our sleeves and made an attempt at a not so regularly done task.
Changing the tyre must have appeared quite a laborious routine for us. In a flash, a gentleman that was passing by drove over and took charge of the situation. He seemed a familiar face and with prodding, I found out that he was employed to the bank manager for the NCB UWI campus. I did not get his name, but I would like to thank him for assisting us at no cost so we could get on our way after a gruelling day at work.
With so much going on in our country, a firefly's glimmer of hope is enough to renew faith in our fellow Jamaicans. Thanks again, sir.
I am, etc.,
