Henry-Wilson, Pickersgill likely to retain PNP posts
published: Wednesday | September 28, 2005

Omar Anderson, Gleaner Writer

THE PEOPLE'S National Party will hosts its National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Sunday at Sandals Whitehouse in Westmoreland.

It is the first NEC meeting since the party held its annual conference two weeks ago. The NEC is the highest decision-making body in the party outside of annual conference.

At Sunday's meeting, the posts of party chairman and deputy chairman will be decided. Current PNP Chairman Robert Pickersgill, and Deputy Chairman Maxine Henry-Wilson are expected to be returned.

Eleven party members are also expected to be voted on to the party's Executive Committee.

Meanwhile, PNP General Secretary Burchell Whiteman told The Gleaner yesterday that the party is already seeking to have a replacement for Dr. Norman Buchanan, the party's Eastern Westmoreland caretaker who died recently. The seat is to be vacated by Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, the retiring Member of Parliament.

Mr. Whiteman, however, said it was unlikely that Mr. Buchanan's successor would be named at the NEC meeting.
