WESTERN BUREAU:

THREE TEAMS, led by 2003 beaten finalists William Knibb Memorial, maintained their perfect records after scoring wins in yesterday's round of matches in the ISSA Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup schoolboys' football competition.

William Knibb ran their record to four wins in Zone A after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Herbert Morrison High in Montego Bay as they widened their lead to three points.

THREE IS A CHARM

Two-time winners and Zone E leaders St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) won for the third time, beating Newell High 3-0, thanks to two goals from Renorio Downswell who took his tally to five goals.

Knox won for the second time in Zone G, beating Porus 2-1 but stay in second place, one point behind Spaldings who drew 1-1 with Christiana.

At Herbert Morrison, the Cassman Williams-coached William Knibb got off to a fast start when Vivroy Kirlew scored in the third minute, beating goalkeeper Tiano Allen from close range.

Herbert Morrison however battled back and dominated the game for long periods as Omar Blake, Mario Samuels and Richard Henry all created good chances.

The home team had to wait until nine minutes into the second half when referee Ricardo Sailsman awarded a penalty when Andre Edwards handled the ball in his own area. Oraine Sterling stepped up and buried the kick to level the scores.

William Knibb would have the last laugh however as a shot from Nicolas Falconer deflected off a Herbert Morrison defender and beat Allen into the back of the net. The game was held up as bottles were thrown on to the sideline.

At Jarrett Park, Bobby Campbell scored a hat-trick for St James High in their 6-0 romp over Muschett. Anchovy won for the second straight time, beating Maldon 4-0. DeCarteret opened their season with a 3-0 win over Manchester High in a Zone F game.
