WESTERN BUREAU:
RENO AND Village United shared the points after playing to a goalless draw in yesterday's opening game of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League game at the Frome Sports Complex.
After a good start where both teams looked organised and attacked each other's goal, the game descended into a free for all as the teams appeared to run out of gas, especially in the second half.
Both coaches, however, said they were satisfied with the point and looked forward to building on what they said was a good start.
Reno's Calvin Valentine said: "Tactically the team played well but the players were tentative at the start."
TOO LATE
The former national midfielder said it was only after making a number of changes that they became fluent, but it was too late.
He said while it was good to get a point they should have made more use of home advantage.
Village's Dr. Dean Weatherly commend his players saying: "For the first outing, getting a point away form home is always good, especially at Frome,".
He also admitted that the Village players "got tired, especially in the last 20 minutes," saying it was something they must work on before the next game on Wednesday.
RENO'S FIRST REAL OPPORTUNITY
The game was played under cloudy conditions with a short shower starting late in the first half but ending just before the start of the second half.
Village had the better start and should have scored in the 14th minute but Leon Irvine skied the ball from just outside the six yards box.
Shane Crawford created the chance when he fought his way down the left side, beating three Reno players then saving the ball from going out of touch before crossing to the unmarked Irvine.
Myron Davis had Reno's first real opportunity just before the half time whistle but missed badly after Andre Moore's mistake in the Village defence. With the goalkeeper at his mercy, Davis shot wide of the far left post.
A ROCKET OF A SHOT
Another excellent save by Elvis Hart in the 79th minute kept Reno off the scoresheet when he went full stretch to his left to pluck a shot from Andre Jarrett out of the air. Jarrett had time to settle the ball and put it on his favoured left foot before letting fly with a rocket of a shot.
Late in the game with the Village team dropping back in defence and trying to run down the clock, Reno created a number of good chances but the hard kicking Martin Williams wasted a number of easy chances, kicking them wide.
