Arnett get the start they wanted
published: Monday | September 12, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

RICHARDSON

ARNETT GARDENS made a promising start to their 2005/06 Wray and Nephew National Premier League campaign at the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex last night.

In an inspired game of football, Arnett found heroes in their old stalwarts as Kwame Richardson (18th) and Everton Bunsie (71st) scored to secure their first three-points.

Arnett Gardens, playing with a number of new faces in their line-up, must have been pleased with the hard work of Conry Hall, who attacked with venom and defended with tenacity.

For Waterhouse, young Vincent Earle was their saving grace, as he was reliable on the ball and baffled the Arnett defenders going forward.

In truth, the game could have ended scoreless had Waterhouse come prepared to defend against free-kicks.

In the 18th minute Richardson stepped up to strike an 18 yard free kick that went through the wall, leaving Richard McCallum with very little chance, though he did get a hand to the low drive.

In the second-half when it looked like only a matter of time before Waterhouse would have gotten onto the scoresheet, another poor job of defending against the spot kick stopped them in their tracks.

BUNSIE SHOT

A short corner was taken to Bunsie, who was all alone on the right side of the 18-yard box.

With time and space galore, Bunsie made the Waterhouse contingent pay for poor marking by placing the ball coolly into the far post.

After the game, Arnett coach, Michael Tulloch lauded his team for starting on the right track.

"It's just the start we wanted. It gives us the kind of positiveness that we want going forward. This is a league format and if this early you don't find yourselves in front you can be in for some problems," said Tulloch.

Losing coach Calvert Fitzgerald thought that his team let themselves down because of the way they defended.

"Coming back to the premier league we thought we had a good chance to win the game but we were caught out by too free kicks. We created a couple of opportunities but we didn't capitalise on them so we just have to go back and correct the problem," said Fitzgerald.
