THE WORLD Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) unites 25 million women and girls in over 122 countries through 100 affiliated, autonomous national YWCAs. The vision of the World YWCA is of a fully inclusive world where justice, peace, health, human dignity, freedom and care for the environment are promoted and sustained through women's leadership.

This 150-year-old organisation hosts its annual executive committee meeting between September 12-16 in Geneva, Switzerland. Attending the meeting is executive committee member Nashauna Drummond, a Gleaner reporter.

YOUNGEST EXECUTIVE MEMBER

At 27, Ms. Drummond is the second Jamaican and the youngest to be elected to the executive committee. Elected at the last World Council meeting in Brisbane, Australia, in 2003, Ms. Drummond has been a member of the Kingston YWCA for 10 years and is the only West Indian currently serving on the executive committee.

Speaking with Flair Ms. Drummond says being a member of the executive committee has provided her with the expertise to help revitalise her 82-year-old Kingston branch. She notes that through the association she feels fulfilled that she has made a valuable contribution to people, even by affecting the life of one individual.

At the meeting, the executive committee will be making plans for World Council 2007 to be held in Niarobi, Kenya. They will also be assessing how effective they have been in achieving the four-year strategic plan of the movement.
