Pulsating products from Panasonic

Dancers perform to the song 'True Colours', at the Panasonic Latin America, S.A. Digital Product Launch 2005, held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, Knutsford Boulevard, New Kingston, last Wednesday.

Daviot Kelly, Staff Reporter

REMEMBER WHEN you were a child and you would stand outside the biggest toy store and knew you couldn't afford any of the good ones yet?

Well, spare a thought for all of us who attended Panasonic Latin America's new digital technology launch on Wednesday, August 24, at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, New Kingston. All those digital beauties on display but, alas, display is the operative word as we could only look at the plasma screen televisions, digital cameras and DVD players that were unveiled.

"The world is going from analog to digital," were the matter-of-fact words of Jezenia Johnson, sales representative for Panasonic Latin America in Jamaica. And, of course, you wouldn't expect one of the world's best to be left behind.

Sales director for Panasonic Latin America, Peter Do Lum, emphasised that new designs of the DVDs, camcorders, plasma and LCD screens were part of the company's push for this new digital revolution.

There are some new innovations that had members of the audience drooling to try and get the products. For the camcorders like the Limux LS1, there is the Mega O.I.S. which compensates for those us with shaky hands. The digital cameras, including the GS 250, have one touch navigation systems allowing the user to access various features with just the movement of the thumb. They also have 'Magic Pix' ability if you have to take pictures in dark areas.

CRYSTAL CLEAR PICTURE AND SOUNDS

The screens and home entertainment systems promised crystal clear picture and sounds. But seeing (and hearing) are believing and once the instruments of mass satisfaction were turned on, promises were fulfilled. Comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat did an excellent job imitating political leaders and telling jokes; all the while boasting about the innovations with their hilarious antics.

Guests included Red Stripe's Carlo Redwood; Simon Crosskill; Digicel's Harry Smith Kirk Wright; Michael Williams; Michael Edwards; Miss Jamaica 2004 Tonoya Toyloy (who won one of the five surprise draw appliances); Candy Butler and Ed Khourie.
